Which ad formats to display on your website
If you want to sell advertising space on your website then you need to know which ones are going to pull the best response for your customers.
One thing is for sure though - you have to do your research and get it right more than ever before. This is because the market is changing and our own perception of what is relevant to our viewing experience is making all the the difference to your bottom line.
If you have been looking at ways to increase webmaster revenue then you would have thought about online advertising formats. This is a great way to generate revenue for your website, but you have to get it right.
If you want a decent level of site revenue then you have to get the formatting and design right for your audience. How often have you been put off by websites that have text, images and ads that are all over the place, in terms of design and relevancy.
We tried a variety of ad designs on our websites which cater for business to business media professionals. We tested banner and text ads that were situated close to our own text and also had static images. We found that people on our website did not react to ads that were over complicated or too flashy, so we toned them down a bit and concentrated on them matching the design of our site. It worked too.
We found that our website income increased when we stuck to a set design. At first, we were unsure that our advertisers would be willing to bow to our judgement on ad design, but they did. When we tested their static ads, we found that they produced a 2% click through rate. Everyone was happy with and our advertisers are now using our sites regularly.
Remember, try to think outside of the box and offer your advertisers many different design options. You may just find that it makes a big difference to the response for your client and therefore the revenue for you. Just make sure that you test and then test some more. I am a firm believer in spending a lot of time researching and testing ads. If you skip over things here you’ll do it later on too.
