You’re Not Hungry, You’re Just Bored

Did you know that inactivity is a major cause of overeating? It’s true! If you’re just sitting around watching television or hum-drumming the day away, you’re far more likely to take a trip over to the refrigerator and eat when you’re not really hungry.

To counteract this tendency, it’s important that you keep yourself busy when trying to lose weight. That means scheduling plenty of activities during the day and after work that will keep you out of the house and away from the kitchen.

Of course, the best activities you could plan are physical activities that you enjoy which will help you build muscle and burn calories. Playing a sport is a great way to stay active and keep yourself from overeating due to boredom. If sports aren’t your thing, then why not take the dog for a walk, or play fetch with your pup in the back yard?

Whatever you do, don’t make plans away from the house that involve being at the home of somebody you’re very comfortable with. If you’re just as likely to raid their refrigerator as you are your own, stay away! Invite your friend to go to the park with you for a walk instead.

If your plans for the day fall through and you find yourself stuck at home, visit a museum or take a scenic drive. Most towns have plenty of things to do on the spur of the moment.

So the next time you find yourself tempted to take a stroll over to the refrigerator, ask yourself: am I really hungry, or am I just bored?
