Does the closing and bankruptcy of furniture stores signal an economic downturn?

Levits furnature, a major furniture store in Southern California has just annouced it’s liquidation sale and declared bankrupcy. It seems this same event preceded the last two or three downturns (other that 9/11).

    It may, to some extent, but Levitz’s business model and competition may also be a factor - furniture is now available online, from Costco, from Wal Mart, in a way it wasn’t in days of old in Levitz’s history.
