What are the best beaches to visit in Southern California?
Southerngirl29 asked:
My family and I are visting Southern California next month, and we would like to spend some time at the beach. We have three small kids so we want to find a beach that is not over crowded so they can pick up sea shells and be able to run around without worrying about losing them in the crowd. Does anyone have any suggestions?
We are splitting our trip between Anaheim and San Diego. We are also spending a couple of days in Los Angeles. We will be renting a car so I do not mind traveling in order to get anywhere.

Mission beach is nice, it have a concrete boardwalk with some nice little stores on the strip.

Laguna Beach in Orange County for a more social place, or Zuma Beach near Malibu if your looking to relax

Well, Southern California is pretty big - so the answer kinda depends on what part you intend to visit.
This time of year, it’s not going to be THAT crowded anywhere.
Down here in Orange County, I suggest the following beaches:
Balboa/Newport Beach. Big, white, sand goes forever. Walking distance from burgers at Ruby’s Diner.
Big Corona (very good for little ones, the pier/breakwater breaks up the surf, making it very safe for swimming. There are fire rings here - you can bring wood and toast hot dogs and marshmallows (but you have to get there relatively early in the day on weekends to stake one out).
Crystal Cove - last time I was there at dusk, we saw dolphins.
The pier at San Clemente - there’s a playground here with swings.

When i visited my cousin who lives in L.A. i remember going to Zuma and Venice, i loved both. Santa Monica’s pier was nice, can’t say the same about the beach though.

There are some great beaches in San Diego. For pictures and information on all of them visit
The Coronado Beach is one of my favorites for families. It’s nice and clean.
Have fun!
